The use of composite materials in the aerospace industry has recently increased extensively due to their high strength-to-weight ratio and recyclability. The combination of lightness and performance in aerostructures is extremely important in the aerospace industry. It is a well-known fact that the aerospace industry requires very strict standards in terms of weight, material properties, and fatigue performance. Therefore, composite materials are key candidates to meet these demanding requirements. Among composite materials, thermoplastic composites have become more competitive in aerospace, defense, energy, electronics, and automotive industries compared to thermoset composites due to their easy formability and recyclability. In addition, thermoplastic composite materials offer high durability, design flexibility, and corrosion resistance. Significant efforts have been made to reduce the effects of global warming worldwide. In this context, thermoplastic composites are highly impressive and attractive. Considering their benefits, an increasing number of thermoplastic parts will be produced in the aerospace industry in the near future. Thermoplastic composite materials are gradually replacing thermoset composites due to their recyclability and shorter production cycles. This research will discuss the history and current developments of thermoplastic composites in the aerospace industry, with a focus on their present and future applications.
