As part of the international CosmoVerse@Istanbul 2025 conference, we warmly invite the public to an inspiring evening that blends science and music. Join leading cosmologists as they unveil the latest discoveries — and enduring mysteries — of our Universe in a format accessible to all.
19:30–20:00 | Mini Concert – ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory
The evening opens with a cultural prelude: a curated program of Western classical pieces and classical Turkish art music, performed by the accomplished musicians of the ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory.
20:00–21:00 | Popular Science Talks
Prof. Daniel M. Scolnic (Duke University)
"Understanding the Expansion of the Universe and Cosmic Controversies"
A leading observational cosmologist and member of the SH0ES collaboration, Prof. Scolnic is at the forefront of efforts to precisely determine the Universe’s current expansion rate — the Hubble constant. His work, in close collaboration with Nobel Laureate Adam Riess, has brought global attention to the “Hubble tension,” a persistent discrepancy in measurements that challenges our understanding of cosmology. Prof. Scolnic will take us on a journey through these cosmic measurements and their profound implications.
Prof. Dr. Özgür Akarsu (Istanbul Technical University)
"Modern Kozmolojide Temeller, Zorluklar ve Çözüm Arayışları"
Prof. Akarsu is a renowned theoretical cosmologist whose research focuses on dark energy, cosmic acceleration, and tensions in the standard model of cosmology. By critically reassessing foundational assumptions in light of observational data, he investigates alternative models to the standard cosmological framework, aiming to resolve persistent cosmological tensions. His work with collaborators directly contributes to ongoing discussions at the forefront of modern cosmology.
This event is open to everyone — no background in physics is needed, only curiosity.
Come for the music, stay for the mysteries of the cosmos.
